Rodeling fun does not have to end at snowmelt. We tested the Torggler S115 Rollenrodel (roller rodel) on Teton asphalt.
A familiarization run was made on a short 7% grade road with a "T" intersection to test right/left turn handling and braking.
Then it was on to the real test. A bench land road drops 270 ft. (82.3m) in exactly one mile (1.6km) on the western foothills of the Grand Teton Mts. The average grade is 6%, but the that gradient is achieved in an initial drop of 8% through nice sharp turns and a final drop of 10% through an off-camber turn to the west. Control is extremely important throughout the descent. Asphalt, gravel and sagebrush are unforgiving to both equipment and flesh. The Rollenrodel easily passed the test. More details in Part 2.
